Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals.

The new Globally Harmonised System on the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) is scheduled to replace a majority of national chemical regulations by the end of 2008.

The GHS will feature:
  • Same hazard classification criteria worldwide: physical hazards, health/environmental hazards.

  • Same product identifier.

  • Same SDS format – 16 sections.

  • Same signal words: Danger - Warning.

  • Simple hazard statements describing the nature and degree of hazard (e.g.: Harmful to aquatic life – Highly flammable liquid and vapour).

  • Same precautionary statements: 4 types of measures for prevention, response, storage and disposal.

  • Same hazard pictograms (square set at a point, black symbol, white background, red border).

Adopting the global GHS framework will simplify the (M)SDS and label authoring process and save money to chemical companies.

Will you be ready for this new set of regulations?

Kemika will be pleased to facilitate your smooth transition toward the GHS by:
  • Designing your GHS MSDS and label conversion plan, country by country.

  • Synchronizing this plan with the adoption and implementation of the GHS in these countries.

  • Including this plan in your MSDS maintenance and management program (for subscribers to Kemika’s maintenance and management service).

  • Information and training.
